Fishing at Mountain Springs Trout Park in Highlandville, MO
My husband and I went on a fishing date at Mountain Springs Trout Park in Highlandville, MO.
We both love fishing and we thought it would be fun to try a trout farm. This was the closest one to us at almost 2 hours away. It was a pretty cold day, but once we got started we forgot the temps and had a lot of fun!
No license is required to fish and you can pay for unlimited catch and release at $20 an hour, or keep and pay $5.95 per pound in which case they clean and pack the fish on ice for free. You must bring your own tackle, but rods and bait are available for free as well.
On our day there, we were told that the trout were spawning and that it might be more difficult to catch. After talking to a few of the locals fishing there also, we could definitely see that it was true because they told us that usually you could catch one within 30 seconds of each cast! We definitely had to work harder than that while we were there, but my husband still managed to catch 6. I only caught one, but I still had a lot of fun trying! Plus, I just really enjoyed walking around the property and looking at all the fish. I mean wow...it was so packed it almost didn't seem fair! I usually enjoy more of a challenge, but this made for a really fun afternoon. Now, my kids would absolutely love this place and we plan to come back in the Spring with them for sure! I am so excited for them to catch that many fish so easily...they'll be ecstatic!
