Bench Rock Nature Trail in Garfield, AR

The Bench Rock Nature Trail in Garfield, AR is a 1.3 mile out-and-back trail that really doesn't boast any spectacular features, but it does have pretty views of Beaver Lake, blufflines, big boulders, a neat climbing tree, and a historical indian cave. Overall, it's a neat little trail.

Bench Rock is rated easy/moderate, but the trail along the bluffs is pretty narrow following the first half of the trail. My husband and I held our boys (7 & 4) hand's, but I was a bit of a nervous wreck and honestly I wouldn't take them along this part of the trail again until they were older. However, the 2nd half of the trail goes through the woods at the bottom of the bluffs and this part is where you'll find a really cool climbing tree and a historical indian bluff shelter. So, for an adult the whole trail isn't that difficult, but if you have kids and you don't want to take them along the blufflines you could just take a left at the beginning of the trailhead and do the 2nd half only.

  1. I chanced upon this website and was thrilled that I found something that I have always been looking for. The photos, descriptions are excellent and your love for the Ozarks and outdoors is so evident in your writing. I moved here 3 years ago and live in NWA and thus far have been restricting my hikes to a few of the well known spots around this area. Read about Glory Hole yesterday and went there. It is one of the prettiest sights I had ever seen. THANKS for taking the time out and sharing this wealth of information
