Weekend at the Caboose Junction Resort in Lampe, MO

Caboose Junction Resort on Table Rock Lake

After my husband and I had a wonderful (kid free) vacation in Colorado, my mom and I wanted to do something extra special for the boys...their own mini weekend vacation. I decided on Branson since it's relatively close and I knew we'd find plenty of fun stuff to do there. Then I started my search for lodging. I was really hoping to find something unique and different and I was beyond excited to find The Caboose Junction Resort's website. I called immediately and booked our caboose for Friday-Sunday. I mean, we'd be spending the weekend in a train...the boys were going to flip!
And sure enough they did. I kept everything a surprise and until we pulled into the parking lot they had no idea what was going on. Actually, until we turned the key to go inside, they thought we were joking about staying in the train. Once the realization set in, the looks on their faces were priceless! Their shock was followed by jumping up and down, some "yays" and "whoohoos." and lots of hugs. MAJOR mommy points scored! :)

The Caboose Junction Resort sits in a beautiful wooded area right on Table Rock lake. The resort features six authentic Atchinson, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) cabooses that have been converted into charming individual units. These units sleep 6. For larger parties, there's a cabin available for rent as well.

Each caboose features a queen size loft bed and two sets of bunk beds (linens included), a bathroom and shower, kitchenette, dining area, sitting area, small refrigerator, 3 burner stove, microwave oven, coffeemaker, wood burning stove, dishes and cooking utensils, as well as a shared large deck area with picnic tables and grills.

The inside of our caboose was clean and cozy. Seriously, if I could say one thing about this resort it would be how clean it is!  No dust, no cobwebs or spiderwebs, not even in corners and window sills..not even on the outside of the trains! It was very clear that these cabooses have been very well taken care of- inside and out. If I could say one more thing it would be how friendly the resorts owners, the Palmers, and their grandson Jacob were. Just very warm and accommodating people. They made us feel right at home.

Unfortunately I don't have any great pictures of the whole inside of the caboose, but there's quite a few on their website, if you want to get a peek. The caboose was so cute! I do have a picture of the boys favorite part of the caboose though...the spiral stairs and the loft bed (which was super comfy!)

We spent the first evening fishing, swinging on their lakeside hammock, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over campfire, and enjoying the view of Table Rock Lake. It was an absolutely perfect Autumn evening!

Another thing my mom and I noticed was how clean the boat dock was! My mom and I are pretty spider leery so we were pleasantly surprised at how well maintained everything was. No ducking under webs..yay! By the way, there are paddleboats, kayaks, a pontoon boat, and a fishing boat available for rent as well. You'll find rates on their website

The next morning we got up early to take a walk out on the dock before leaving to Branson for a full day of fun!

When we came home that evening we took advantage of the unseasonably warm Late October day and let the boys go for a sunset swim.

We also had fun collecting shells. There were tons along the rocky shore..some BIG ones too!

On Sunday we were sad to leave our little red caboose, but we sure did leave with lots of great memories! It definitely won't be the last time we stay at the Caboose Junction Resort though. We look forward to returning again next year! It was really one of the best, and certainly one of the most memorable lodging experiences we've ever had as a family.
