The Great Passion Play & the Christ of the Ozarks Statue in Eureka Springs, AR

Christ of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, AR

For a fun date night, my husband and I went to see The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, AR. I had never seen the play, but Brian had seen it as a child with his parents and had been telling me for the past few years that he'd really love to see it again so I surprised him with tickets.

The Great Passion Play is an outdoor drama performed on a 550 ft. amphitheater style stage. The performance chronicles the significant events between the time of the resurrection of Lazarus to Jesus' ascension into Heaven.

When we arrived there was a little over an hour until the play started and it was pouring...I mean monsoon downpour! We sat in the car and waited until the last few minutes hoping the rain would stop and sure enough it did! We were able to take a quick walk to see the Christ of the Ozarks statue and then headed on to the play. The Passion Play crew generously handed out paper towels to dry our seats off with and despite the soggy situation, it was a great night! We really enjoyed the play, however what I did not know or expect was that the dialogue was all pre-recorded and played through loudspeakers and the actors lip-sync the dialogue. It wasn't that this was necessarily a bad thing, it just took a few minutes to get used to. The set itself was really amazing--quite beautiful really! They also used live animals in several scenes. Over all, I thought the play was very entertaining and biblically accurate. I was really glad to have had finally seen it.

  1. The coldest night I ever spent in my entire life was spent at the Passion Play - LOL. My mom and I nearly froze to death. A cold front swooped in, we wore only light jackets, everyone else brought blankets. I love Eureka Springs! Visiting from ArWomenBloggers! Hope to meet you in September at AWBU!
