Paige Falls and Broadwater Hollow Falls Trail in Compton, AR
I had been wanting to visit the Paige Falls and Broadwater Hollow Falls for some time not only because they are beautiful, but because we could take the kids on the adventure too! So on Earth Day we made the 90 mile drive to the trail leading to both of these waterfalls.
The last two miles leading to the trail is a gravel road that is quite an adventure in itself! I have heard of others taking a midsize car down this road so it's up to you, but I will just tell you that it is quite rough and I would recommend something higher off the ground with 4-wheel drive. I'm glad I was driving, because it was a lot of fun to navigate this road in Big Red!
The trail itself was mostly easy for both kids (almost 3 and 6). My oldest did perfectly fine, and we briefly carried my youngest through a few of the more rocky and steeper downgrades. Neither of which are dramatic.
We spent hours here exploring the falls and the surrounding area. My husband and I sat back with our feet in the water while the kids delved into their own little worlds playing in the creek..throwing rocks and trying to build dams and such. Perfect way to spend Earth Day!
Look for this volunteer fire department and the gravel road right across from it which is NC 2600.
Get ready for some rough ridin' on this gravel road! You've got 2 miles of slow going till you reach the creek crossing!
This is the parking area to the left after you drive over the creek-crossing.
Walk back to the creek and head downstream to the trail.
Paige Falls- 8 feet tall
You'll come to this area which is looking above Paige Falls. Paige Falls is named for a 17 year old girl, Paige Slape who was killed in a car accident on her first day of summer vacation just a few miles from this waterfall. It's an absolutely gorgeous waterfall and tribute to a beautiful life, tragically cut short.
This is a perfect spot to hang out for a bit before heading on down the trail to the 2nd waterfall.
up, up, up...and right after this is where you can head down to the base of Paige Falls and really get a good look at it and the emerald pool below.
then keep on truckin' to the 2nd fall.
You'll see Broadwater Hollow Falls to the right through the trees. This is where it will get a little steep heading down and we had to carry our youngest.
