Brentwood Community Park and Rest Area in Brentwood, AR
Brentwood Community Park is located in Brentwood, AR which is situated on scenic US 71, between Winslow and Westfork. The park has a bit of a feel-good back story to it.Before I-540 was built in the late 90's, US 71 was the main route to go to from Fayetteville to Fort Smith. This park was originally built as a rest area for the heavy traffic that used to go through here. After I-540 was built, traffic through this area dropped significantly and the park fell into ruin and vandalization. To make a long story short, years later local residents took over the care and maintenance of the park as volunteers to restore it as a beautiful place for the community and passerby's to relax along the banks of the West Fork of the White River. This really is a pretty little place worth stopping for, or even making a special trip for, especially since swimming is allowed. It's a great little place to spend a summer's day.
